In her op-ed in The Marker, Merav Arlozorov writes that the Ministry of Finance’s proposed economic stimulus plan is no more than just an ‘ok’ plan, arguing that it lacks vision and doesn’t promote Israel’s relative advantages.
She anchors her argument with an interview with Reut President Gidi Grinstein who claims that Israel should focus on the concept of leapfrogging – the challenge of reaching high, continuous and inclusive growth – which will make Israel one of the world leading countries in its citizens’ quality of life.
According to the Reut, investing in infrastructure or education is not sufficient to leapfrog as most countries Israel competes with on resources, human capital, and technology will do the same.
Leapfrogging requires Israel identifying growth engines and building institutions with transformative capacity. The economic crisis should be seen as an opportunity to bring these changes into action through a constant dialogue based on paradigm of partnership.
