Last Thursday, we held a teleconference with some of Reut’s overseas community. These teleconferences are presented by Reut President Gidi Grinstein and feature the team’s latest analysis on the most relevant policy challenges facing Israel. This call focussed on the obstacles and opportunities of the renewed Israeli-Palestinian political process.
During the presentation, Gidi discussed Israel’s political conundrum vis-à-vis the Palestinians, the implications of Operation Cast Lead, the dilemmas Hamas poses for Israel, possible consequences of a Palestinian National Unity government, and different ways to emerge from the current deadlock.
Moreover, Reut’s analysis shows two potential organizing logics for the political process. The first is an ‘all or nothing’ approach whose goal is to reach a Permanent Status Agreement. The second is the logic of Statebuilding in which Israel systematically transfers powers to the Palestinian Authority in order to create a Palestinian state in provisional borders.
