Ben Dror Yemini (Hebrew) argues that Israel doesn’t yet understand the increasing danger, immediacy and dominance of international voices perceiving the country as a pariah state calling for a one state solution. “We’re in the last minute…more and more articles, publications and conferences calling for one state signal we’re heading towards the end of the Zionist vision of a Jewish and democratic state.
Similar to Yemini, Reut has discussed this trend of De-Legitimization of Israel as a Jewish state by different actors who claim the Two State Solution is unjust and unviable and promote the alternative idea of a One State Solution. It raises the danger that leading actors within the international community may abandon their support of The Two State Solution.
In addition, this trend could be accelerated because of two other developments:
Palestinian and Arab inversion towards The Two State Solution. In recent years, eroding support for the 2 State Solution paradigm has entered the moderate Palestinian camp, Arab states and some Israeli-Arab leaders.
Meanwhile, the failure of the political process could also seriously erode the Two State paradigm in part due to the belief that the current Palestinian negotiation dream constitutes a ‘dream team’. In other words, if Israel can’t reach and agreement with Abu-Mazen, many will doubt if such an agreement can be reached at all. (See The final act of the Two State Solution?).
