During Pesach, we plan to update our community regarding developments in different areas of our work. This post focuses on the teams dealing with Israel’s national security and the political process with the Palestinians.
Israeli-Palestinian Political Process: The incoming Netanyahu Government has declared that it will carry out a reassessment in this area. The Reut Institute believes that such a process has been long overdue. A team led by Eran Shayshon is preparing a comprehensive assessment on this matter. (click here for website).
Updating Israel’s National Security Strategy: Since the 2006 Second Lebanon War, Reut has been checking the relevance of Israel’s national security strategy in the context of the emerging challenges to Israel’s security and wellbeing. Our present effort focuses on eliciting the explicit and tacit working assumptions that underlie the existing strategy as part of an effort to offer a set of principles and guidelines for a new strategy. National and Local Resilience: Following the 2006 Second Lebanon War, Reut has articulated a conceptual framework for reorganizing Israel’s preparedness for national emergencies. This framework was endorsed by the Ayalon Committee. The 2nd phase of this project began in December 2008 in collaboration with the Israel Trauma Coalition (ITC) and with the support of UJA Federation of NYC. We are now finalizing the research phase and are about to begin the articulation of the new strategy. (click here for website)
