An interesting analysis of Iran’s missile capability reflects the Resistance Network’s military strategy of the Muqawama Doctrine – the “slow destruction” used to undermine Israel’s staying power and ultimately wipe it off the map (what the Reut Institute calls the ‘Logic of Implosion’).
In a recent paper, Uzi Rubin, former head of the Defense Ministry’s Homa Project (code for the Arrow anti-ballistic missile system), and Tal Inbar, head of the Fisher Institute for Air and Space Strategic Studies, explain that while moderate Arab states emphasize air power, Iran and Syria (and by extension Hamas and Hezbollah) are adopting a “resistance” doctrine giving priority to missiles and rockets as the best response to Western air superiority.
As Rubin explains – these “missiles are an equalizer, balancing the superiority of Israel’s air force.”
The Muqawama Doctrine’s military aspects do not focus on beating Israel, but simply preventing it from ‘winning’. It thus seeks to neutralize Israel’s military superiority by combining conventional and guerrilla tactics and launches combat from civilian centers. It also one day aspires to be protected by an Iranian nuclear umbrella.
So far, Israel has failed to find an adequate response to such organizations.
