The conference ‘Community Resilience – the Strength of the Community Dealing with Long-Term Crises’ took place last week and dealt primarily with the issue of emergency preparedness for the Israeli Home Front as well as discussing several models for Resilience Centers.
The Resilience Centers run in several councils in northern and southern Israel in accordance with the Government Decision number 746 (2006). Their objective is to become a platform for cooperation between the governmental sector, local government, non- profit organizations and Jewish communities around the world, in order improve emergency preparedness at the local level.
In many cases, Resilience Centers work from within the local governments’ structure. These organizations contribute to the local authorities’ efforts to generate a vision for local resilience and to coordinate between all the factors involved, including the national home front agencies.
However, despite the great importance of these centers for fostering synergy between sectors in the home front, at the present their future is unclear due to budgetary constraints.
