This month, the Reut Institute was awarded a citation by the National Award for Quality and Excellence among the Public Sector in memory of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, in the category of ‘Organizations in Local Government, Society and Community.’
One of the factors in the judges’ decision was Reut’s innovative approach to human resources: identifying the passion and talent of its employees, and based upon those, paving the way towards their personal and professional development.
In this context, Reut aspires to encourage its employees to develop in fields in which their unique added value lies and to express it during their work through theoretical, methodological and technical tools. These tools will also serve them after they leave Reut and during their entire professional career.
In general, sustaining significant and substantive impact in the public sector involves an adaptation of values, priorities, patterns of conduct or habits. Therefore, when a strategic leader attempts to initiate change it may instigate resistance by those who do not see the need for change. Dealing effectively with these actors greatly depends on the motivation of the leader, his relation to the topic and his desire to impact.
For these reasons Reut invests in grooming employees beyond their basic training program using a clear table of expectations for analysts. The framework of this table relates to the organization’s expectations from the employee in his/her professional and personal development during his time with the organization. In addition, Reut’s employees are expected to take part in the fundamental day to day workings of the organization. This allows for all employees to work towards ambitious goals, and to collectively display clear and defined values of excellence, professionalism, moral standard, transparency, and openness to feedback.
