Reut’s monthly training days constitute a part of the organization’s commitment to train a cadre of Israel’s future strategic thinkers.
The training program includes a component in Jewish history and religion, generously supported by the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation, and provided by the Center for Leadership Initiatives. July’s training day, which took place last week, proved to be extremely challenging.
The session began with a lecture by Shlomit Naor from Melitz in preparation for Tisha Be’Av – the commemoration of the destruction of the First and Second Temples in Jerusalem, as well as other historical tragedies. We also enjoyed a discussion led by Rabbi Yehoshua Engelman, the director of Yakar Tel Aviv, on different stories in the Gemara regarding underlying reasons for the exile of the Jewish people.
In addition, the training day included a presentation delivered by our Socio-Economic Team Leader, Omri Zegen, on the core elements of 20th Century Zionism, based on David Ben Gurion’s book Uniqueness and Mission. Comprising one of the books in Reut’s ‘Canon’, the book facilitated a discussion which greatly contributed to enriching Reut’s own vision of 21st Century Zionism.
