Last week, Reut’s Regional Development team participated in a meeting of entrepreneurs in Akko, the third among a series. The meetings’ goal is to design a narrative based on the region’s unique characteristics, and to leverage them into a globally competitive economic activity.
For Reut, these meetings serve as ‘laboratories’ which will provide a model for a regional socio-economic leapfrogging in Israel. Establishing this model is one of several steps toward the implementation of the ISRAEL 15 Vision, which aims to place Israel among the 15 leading countries in terms of quality of life.
This meeting was attended by entrepreneurs from different fields, such as: education, health, local government, and R&D. In addition, representatives of the organizations leading this process attended, including Praxis, the UJC’s Partnership 2000 , and the Reut Institute.
The entrepreneurs discussed the need to create an inspirational vision for the region, as it will encourage initial activity around the region’s unique assets: nature and landscape, sea and culture (theater, music and dance) etc.
In addition, the importance of entrepreneurs, promoting local leapfrogging was acknowledged, since local entrepreneurs live in the region and are able to recognize its unique advantages. In contrast, international corporations ‘come and go’ according to the company’s profit considerations.
