The leaders of Reut’s Socio-Economic Team, Amit Granek and Omri Zegen, recently returned from a study visit to the EU and OECD, which was supported by Friedrich Ebert Foundation. The purpose of the trip was to take European and Global experience of regional development and try and understand its relevancy to Israel. The specific aim was to try and understand how to promote competitiveness on the regional level in order to leapfrog the entire country, as well as clarifying the role of the central government in encouraging this process.
The team organized 20 meetings with the top researchers in the field during the trip. The insights gathered from these meetings significantly advance the team’s understanding and writing of conceptual frameworks for regional development in Israel.
In addition, a few meetings took place focusing on the labor market and understanding the Flexicurity approach which was first developed in Denmark and has since then been adopted by many EU countries. Next week, Reut will publish a document on the Flexicurity approach which will soon be presented to the relevant Government agencies.
