Surveying the landscape of the global effort to delegitimize the state of Israel, it’s clear that an increasingly dominant narrative seeking to impose a one-state solution is emerging.
While some proponents attempt to advance this paradigm as an expression of frustration with a stagnated peace process, others explicitly oppose the concept of a Jewish state in Israel.
In this context, an interesting interview by Jeffrey Goldberg with Senior Fellow at the American Task Force on Palestine Hussein Ibish sets out the strategy and mindset deployed by ‘the One-Staters’:
According to Ibish (who opposes this One State Strategy), “Proponents seek to advance their agenda by “bring[ing] the Israelis to their knees…South Africa style via the global application of what they call BDS – Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions. The aim is to crush the will of the Israelis, break the Zionist movement and ultimately “reverse the war of 1948 at the ballot.”
While it seems that this one state narrative and the concurrent undermining of Israel’s political legitimacy is gaining ground among European and American civil society, it is unclear whether the Government has formulated a relevant strategic response.
