In a recently published interview, Dan Senor, one of the authors of the best-selling book Start-Up Nation (Along with Saul Singer), discusses the strong link between a socio-economic leapfrog and innovation.
The interview focuses on the origins of Israel’s high-tech industry success story. Senor points to Israel’s high investment in R&D and innovation as the main engine of that industry’s growth —a logic that dovetails with Reut’s Israel 15 Vision .
Senor also elaborates on the importance of entrepreneurialism as a significant component of the industry’s success, claiming that Israel’s “turbo charge” engine is its combination of innovation and entrepreneurialism.
Reut’s notion of Flexicurity deals with the correlation between innovation and labor market policy. Extrapolating from the success story Senor describes, one of the main questions that we ask is how to downstream this “turbo charge” engine to Israel’s less-developed industries and services in order to generate a similar leap in those arenas.
