An interesting article by Aluf Benn in Haaretz maps out the dilemmas facing Israel’s leaders and suggests that a Palestinian State in Provisional Borders (PSPB) might be the most practicable arrangement, either through mutual agreement or a unilateral Israeli decision.
Benn suggests that one mechanism to break the current deadlock could be based on Reut’s document from last year which recommended that Washington present a vision for a final-status agreement to give the Palestinians a “diplomatic horizon,” after which a Palestinian state would arise within provisional borders. President Shimon Peres has presented a similar initiative, calling for separate talks on an interim arrangement and a final-status agreement respectively.
